What else can be done with stained concrete floors?
Engraving!
These photos represent what can be done with NON-Acid, Acid Stains when you add engraving into the solution. Thats right, non-Acid, Acid stains.... These are transparent acrylic stains. In the hands of a professional applicator, they can create incredible flooring effects. Engraving adds a luxury element to your floors.
This specific client had a basement condo which needed a light colored stained finish. We were able to remove the laminate flooring, cut off the glue, add a couple of layers of concrete microtopping, then engraved, then stained the floor. Engraving can be done either before OR after staining. If done after staining, the engraved lines will become white. When done as we have here, post stain application, it gathers the stain and become darker. In this condo, we used a professional grade non-acid stain in a light brown color. After staining the floor, once dry, we hand tinted areas which were very light - where the stain was absorbed. This is one of the attributes of non-acid stains. The ability to touch up the floor prior to sealing in of the colors... We can adjust the depth of staining to meet client expectations. In this case, we wanted a lighter, varigated result. Other results could have been achieved, such as darker, fuller stained appearances.
The pics above show, (on the left), a micro topping applied surface. (Note how the floor appears white). On the right, after the intial application has dried, you can see how the floor looks as if it has been acid stained. (Darker floor with engraving plainly seen). The variagated, mottled look was achieved without the introduction of any acid fumes into the space. This is important where the space(s) around the unit are occupied. Acid fumes are toxic. Using these GREEN stains keeps these fumes from leaching into surrounding properties. A MUCH better solution than traditional Acid Stains.
